This powerful program allows me to fully integrate the concept of STEM.
What do I mean?
For starters, having access to a variety of material and equipment without worrying about other constraints is music to my ears...
Each gathering represents the confirmation that every day... is a new day for learning!
Accessibility makes it easy to implement the EDP - Engineering Design Process -
Criteria and constraints will always be the rule of the day. The students have understood very quickly to identify a problem and realize they have the capability to find a solution.
This experience happens every single time that we meet at Oliver Middle - Monday and Tuesday (4-6pm).
Our first gathering was all about team building.
Something as simple as a hula hoop is the perfect tool to remind our scholars they MUST work together.
As you can see in the pictures and the videos, they are making it happen.
The students had to use the tip of two fingers - on each hand - they had to balance and control the involuntary movement of the hula hoop (due to gravity) and the energy of the ring.
This motion brings others to participate in the circumference and work together and have fun.

Candace Gilligan joined us. She's a retired nurse and will always mentor everyone and be present to share all her knowledge.
