Oliver Middle students met author Margot Lee Shetterly - Hidden Figures

The big day arrived... 42 students from Oliver Middle experienced literary grandiosity. They sat in the first row and closely listened to Margot Lee Shetterly, author of the book "Hidden Figures" and her panel companions.

This event is a product of the after school program from i3 STEM Grant. Yes, this program creates experiences outside of the classroom promoting a key thought process -- that our students must think about the future and they must see examples of success.

The students experienced the commitment to education. They witnessed women empowered by life and ready to keep learning from everything positive and challenging in their lives.

This is meaningful.

The full day of activities included poetry, science, engineering, Science Fair trucks, rockets, algorithms and more was enjoyed.

Our students were welcomed with open arms by Lipscomb University - the event was coordinated by Mrs. Megan Davis, Director of Professional Development.

Also possible thanks to the sponsorship of NES (Nashville Electric Service) with the support of Mrs. Laura Smith, Vice President and General Counsel, joined by Mr. Bruce D. Mackie, Engineer Supervisor, System Protection & Communications.

A project that will result from this experience:

Hidden Figures Reading and Drama Club - which will culminate in a Musical called:

"Hidden Figures Musical at OMS"

More details soon.

Thankful and inspired I remain.

Thank you everyone!
