NAZA @WRIGHT MIDDLE SCHOOL - BUILDING A HYDROPONICS SYSTEM
Carlos, Aron and Freddy are students at Wright Middle School who recently learned how to build a hydroponic system.
How could this happen? Thru the power of STEM. Thru the power of After School Programs. Thru the commitment of educators who welcome the opportunity to face challenges, accept flaws and find a solution. Above all, creating a process of learning at all times.
Goals of the process:
Build Self-esteem - students know they CAN achieve anything they want to...
Academic challenges will not limit the way you learn in STEM...
New horizons and opportunities become a reality
Challenges are not always solved/handled/resolved just because goals are written down -- Flexibility is key!
Challenges teach you to improve what has not been achieved and look for solutions in a different way
Success:
Carlos achieved building his hydroponic system!
All the students learned to trust themselves
Everyone learned how to better organize the project
Everyone learned about prioritizing to achieve the final goal
Everyone learned to use tools that contributed to the process - using a saw, drilling, taking exact measurements
We learned a back up plan is a must when the first round of creativity does not produce the desired results
Thank you to Denise Rocha, Program Director, NAZA - Wright Middle School - for trusting we can achieve and there are no limits to what can be done...
