Hidden Figures and Oliver Middle School!

Today, a group of students, who also participate in the i3 STEM Grant After School program, had the honor to receive a copy of the Hidden Figures book. This is the first stage of our participation in the great event where my students will meet the author of the book, Margot Lee Shetterly, to be held on February 19 at Lipscomb University.

This is possible thanks to the sponsorship of NES (Nashville Electric Service) with the support of Mrs. Laura Smith, Vice President and General Counsel, joined by Mr. Bruce D. Mackie, Engineer Supervisor, System Protection & Communications. The event was coordinated by Lipscomb University, represented by Mrs. Megan Davis, Director of Professional Development.

Our students will have the opportunity to meet, ask questions, interact in an educational panel celebrating Engineering Week.

Contemplating the faces of my students, grateful to receive a copy of Hidden Figures, is priceless. We'll present another opportunity to view life from the perspective of incredible women who accomplished so much in very difficult times. The message supported by our Executive Principal Dr. Erin Anderson of hard work, responsibility, dream, act, you can make it happen is instilled in our students every day. This experience will reinforce this powerful idea. Without forgetting this will be another new day for learning!
