The NEA Foundation's Salute to Excellence in Education - GALA!

Thanks to LP Pencil, President and CEO - Angie Adams - and Southwest Airlines I attended the NEA Foundation's GALA in Washington D.C.

What a delight to be surrounded by mighty educators who believe in public education... Who support going the extra mile... Who want their students to succeed.

Key highlights and resonating reminders... shared by the likes of Malcolm Jamal Warner (yes, the kid from the Cosby show!!!) and other notables at the Gala...

  • Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it...

  • Keeping the promise of public education Is a compromise to make everyday a new day for learning...

  • The promise of Public education is teaching the dreams of each of our students,,,

I am reaffirmed... through STEAM this was a wonderful opportunity as it gives me the freedom to look at every one of my students in the eye and tell them believe in yourself.

The opportunity to share with colleagues unlimited experiences is priceless. Listening to anecdotes from these colleagues who are proud of their work as educators in the public system, inspired to continue creating, weaving minds capable of shaping a future not only full of hope but also of self pride and seeing how they succeed in a promising, challenging and educational system. It is here that we vocational educators carry our batteries of wisdom, understanding, love, sacrifice.

LP Pencil, Southwest and all sponsors are committed to developing a more viable environment for our schools day to day.

Some of the people I met...

Carol Strickland, the Director of the National Teachers Hall of Fame, welcomed me with open arms and wanted to make sure I met everyone

Ana Schwager, Regional Leader, Community Affairs & Grassroots, Southwest

I am so proud of fellow TN teacher from Memphis -- Cicely Woodard - she received the Horace Mann Award for Teaching Excellence

Andrea Hajek, M.Ed., NBCT - Director, Assessment Operations, National Board for Professional Teaching Standards

Daniel Oliver, VP Development, Asian/Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurship

Kim Fortney, National History Day

Meredith Randle and Stacy Lewis, Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund

Having been at this event makes me a winner of enlightenment and I left with greater inspiration.

Yes, you can count on me to have worked the network to keep building on the meaningful presence of community partners in our schools.
